Master Study Programs in Arabic and Islamic Studies

At the moment, the two disciplines do not have their own master’s program. However, the chairs are currently preparing an English-language master's program in cooperation with African Studies, which will be called Islam in Africa and, subject to approval, can be studied from the winter semester 2024/25 onwards.

At present, graduates of Arabic Studies can deepen their linguistic basics using the Arabic language, among others, in the Master's program Language – Interaction – Culture. Graduates of Islamic Studies can deepen their focus on Africa in the international social and cultural studies master's program European Interdisciplinary Master African Studies (EIMAS), which is a cooperation between the University of Bayreuth, the University of Bordeaux Montaigne (France) and the University of Porto (Portugal).

MA European Interdisciplinary Master African Studies (EIMAS)Hide

The Master's program EIMAS offers students a four-step mobility scheme from the University of Porto (1st semester) to the University of Bayreuth (2nd semester) and the Bordeaux Montaigne University (3rd semester) before they carry out an Africa-based or Africa-related fieldwork or internship, which will result in the writing of a thesis at the university of their choice. This study program enables students to acquire a wide range of practice-oriented knowledge of Global Africa, to enhance their analytical and communication skills and to strengthen their ability to work independently, which will significantly increase their employability. The consortium’s wide range of already existing collaborations with academic and non-academic partners such as government representatives, NGOs, corporate and diplomatic protagonists in Europe, Africa and beyond ensures the best possible connection to the global job market.
